Douglas, thanks very much for your information; I am very pleased to have this confirmed. I don't know why my grandma had the wrong dates for Rezin(Reason) Powell - probably because she got it from word of mouth from his son, Henry Archimedes, who was her grandfather, and the old man was guessing at that point about what his dad's birthdate was. Anyway, this seems to confirm that Rezin Powell born 1811 was my ggg-grandfather. As I say, his son Henry Archimedes, who you list as the fifth child of his marriage to Lana Nance, married Sarah Steele. Well, they had just the one child, who was my great grandmother, Grace. After her mom Sarah died, he remarried. My great grandmother married Robert Grant Shepherd, if you don't have details of this branch and are interested I can supply them. My grandmother Miriam Shepherd Martin remembered her grand-dad Henry Archimedes as a gentle, pious old man;she went with him to visit an old fellow soldier from the Civil War, which he had fought in, and they prayed together at the end of the visit. She said he always would bring produce from his farm when he came to visit his daughter Grace and her family. I would be happy to get any further information about the early ancestors of the Vermillions and associated families. Which Vermillion wife are you descended from, Susanna Barker or Elizabeth Shumate?
