I am the great niece of John Vert, originally from Haddington, who immigrated to Pendleton, Oregon.John's brother, MacRae Dods Vert, was my great grandfather.
Our family was aware of the Vert Memorial Hospital in Haddington. There was also built in Keirrimuir (sp), Scotland a Vert MacLean Memorial Cottage for retired nurses which was also used for caring for the poor.Have not been able to locate this building as yet.
In Pendleton Oregon, there is a Vert Memorial Community Building and Museum. My mother and I made a trip to Pendleton to locate this building. It is a building that is used all the time.
Also in Pendleton, is the First Presbyterian church.John Vert donated monies for the building of this church. It has a Jessie Vert Memorial Room, which we were told was used for special meetings and for brides, preparing for their wedding.
I would be interested in any information about the Hospital and the Nurses retirement home in Scotland, if available.
Although John Vert was a Mason, there was nothing to indicate that he was responsible for a Freemason Building.
John and his wife Jessie lived in Pendleton until their deaths.
