I'm glad to hear you have so much info on the Vessels; once I find a link, which I'm sure must be there somewhere, I'm hoping someone will be able to fill in all the blanks. It's just getting to that link that's proving really difficult.
Everyone in my family is certain that my great-grandfather, Carl Joseph Vessels, is from the Rhodelia/Breckinridge area of Kentucky. Although my grandfather, who doesn't remember his biological father at all but has heard a few stories, says that he thinks they may have been from St. Theresa's Parish in Brandenburg. Is that close to Rhodelia? My gr-grandmother divorced her husband after eight miserable years and afterwards wouldn't let anyone mention his name around her, so I don't know if any of the information I have is correct.
I'm fairly certain that Carl moved to the Louisville area sometime before 1920. My gr-grandmother came from Mariah Hill, Ind., but I don't think they met or married there, and I know they settled in Louisville after they got married, which was in 1920.
My gr-grandmother is 97 now, and while I was able to coax out of her what little information I have on Carl's siblings (Susie, Mary, Margaret, Beatrice, unknown brother), she couldn't remember anything else except for their marriage and divorce dates. So I'm completely stuck. I have no idea where else to search, because I've tried every database I could think of. Even if you don't have a link to my family, do you have any suggestions on where I should look next?
I just thought of one more possibility: my family has a tradition of giving children a middle name that is the first name of the parent. If that's the case, Carl's father's name would be Joseph.
Thanks so much for your help. Please let me know if you can think of anything.
