Joseph Viel, late 1880's, New Brunswick
Looking for information on Joseph Viel (who married Edith Nadeau 09-23-1899 in Madawaska County, N.B. Canada.)Did they have any children? Was one of their sons a Paul Viel, (probably born early 1890's.)Paul Viel married Evelyn Williams 12-21-1912 in Madison, Maine.
Paul Viel was my paternal grandfather, but I cannot find any birth or death records on him.
It was the story in my family, that a long time ago, our Viel name was spelled Vielle. We always pronounced the name Viel with two syllables, like "Vee" + "el". (Which is consistent with how a French speaking person would pronounce Vielle.)I changed the spelling (adding a final 'le') in 1986.I just got tired of people saying 'Viel' like "Vile" or "Veal".
I'm new to genealogy.Does anyone have any information on whether the Viel name was, at one time, spelled Vielle?
My father was Andrew Viel (b.5-4-1915 d.10-22-1995)He was the second of two children born to Paul and Evelyn Viel.
I live in Spokane, Washington.
Thank you for any advice, suggestions or information.
