To Danny Vigil:
First of all you must be aware that in Spanish lenguage families, as are Mexicans families, the last name is made up with both parents last names, for example I am Vicente Vigil Rosas, my father's last name is VIGIL, my mother's is ROSAS, so, the man you "think" was the first Vigil in Mexico City, named Juan Montes Vigil, is indeed not a "real" Vigil, becaues it is his mother's last name, so, HE COULDN'T INHERITATE THE VIGIL NAME to his children, as my father did to my brother and myself, so this datum of yours is incorrect.
Second of all... Juan Montes Vigil could have been the first Montes Vigl (not Vigil) ever to be in Mexico City but he was not a Vigil to be considered the first Vigil ever to be in Mexico City.
Third point... Zacatecas is a state near to San Luis PotosÃ,which was also settled with Vigil comingo from San Luis Potosì.... and I repeat and insist, the Montes family of which Juan Montes Vigil was member, could have settled in Zacatecas (watch out the spell of Zacatecas is Z-A-C-A-T-E-C-A-S and not Zecatecas as you misswrote, I assume, becuase always the English speakers want to "change" the Mexican names as they did with Moctezuma which they call "Montecuzoma" what are they doing? Why they made this name up?
So, everytime you read a name which first last name is Vigil (as in your case and in mine) then WE ARE (REAL) VIGILS, but when the Vigil is the second last name, it's the mother's last name and they're not considered estrictly (real) Vigils, becaues of their father's (first) last name, as in the case of Juan Montes (father's first last name) Vigil (mother's first last name)... because int Juan Montes Vigil case, he couldn't "pass" or inheritate the Vigil name to his children, as I'll be able to transmite to my own ones.
I hope this explanation could "enlight" your Vigil name investigation...
Sincerely,
Vicente Vigil Rosas.
