Since my database was referenced in the posting, I guess it is only right for me to weigh in.
There are two Hester Woodcocks mentioned in censuses, one quite a bit younger than the other. It is the older Hester who married Abraham Villneff.Wanda Sinclair has the younger Hester married to Abraham; if this was correct she would have been only 7 years old at the time of the marriage.
The Amarilla Woodcock referred to is more than likely the aunt of Hester Woodcock Villneff and was born abt. 1830.
The birthdate I give for Hester Woodcock Villneff is based on her age at death.Remember to allow for "fudging" of birthdates in censuses--in those early years people didn't always remember the year they were born, and women tended to sometimes be vain about their age, often aging slower than their husband.
There is absolutely NO evidence whatsoever that my great-grandfather Edward Villneff is the same person as Edward Hayes, a topic which has been beaten into the ground for far too long. The most telling piece of evidence is that Edward Villneff was in Michigan, working, getting married and having babies at same time that Edward Hayes was in Ontario doing the same thing. The two men have different birthdates, Ed Hayes being nearly a year older. And the Villneff family has always known the whereabouts ofEdward Villneff, making it difficult for him to maintain a secret identity as alleged.
