VINITA, Okla. - Marie Vogel, 92-year-old longtime Vinita resident passed away Sunday, January 27, 2002 in Bristow, Okla. Marie was born November 1, 1909 in Vinita to Ira and Pearl Elliott. She graduated from Vinita High School then worked for several years in Muskogee, Okla. Marie Elliott and Walter Vogel were married April 8, 1939 in Sallisaw, Okla., and made their home in Vinita. The Vogels had owned Vogel Oil Company and Mrs. Vogel assisted in their business as bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Christian Church. Marie enjoyed traveling with her husband, created beautiful pieces of hand painted china as a hobby, and loved her work as a longtime volunteer at Craig County General Hospital. In 1988 Mrs. Vogel made a decision to move to Tulsa, Okla., then because of her failing health, she moved to Bristow to be near her niece, Verna Dean Poe. Survivors include: her niece, Verna Dean Poe and her husband, Wellon, of Bristow; a sister-in-law, Shirley Elliot of Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on September 18, 1975, her parents, a sister, Verna Mae Cozart, and a brother, Maurice Lee Elliott. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Pastor Keith Mackey officiated. Services were under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home.
