Thanks for your note. My research indicates that two Louis Volks lived in the D.C. area--married to cousins, I believe (although I may be wrong).
One Louis Volk was married to Rose and had 4 daughters and a son (this sounds like it's definitely your family!). The 1941 D.C. city directory lists Louis W. Volk, a "br mgr" (not sure what that means) married to Rose.
The other Louis Volk was married to Ida and managed the Comet Cut Rate Liquor Store at 1845 Columbia Rd N.W. in the late 1940s. In 1943 Louis and Ida lived on Rodman, then moved in the late 1940s to 4634 Livingston Rd. S.E.
Ida Volk was my great-aunt (sister of my paternal grandfather, Isaac Birk). I only learned of her existence because my grandfather's death certificate, issued in D.C., says that his brother-in-law Louis Volk provided information for the certificate. Apparently Isaac (who lived in NYC) had a fatal heart attack while visiting Ida and Louis.
Do you or anyone in your family know anything about the other Louis Volk and his wife Ida? I wonder whether my Volks had any children...I'd dearly love to find these long-lost relatives, if they exist.
