I am directly descended from Uriah Voss (b. abt 1843 in Georgia). His wife was Margaret Voss (or in some cases Margaret Catherine Brown).Uriah was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War.
In any case, according to other posts on this forum, his father was probably Thomas J. Voss (sometimes spelled Vass).Thomas was found in the 1840 Putnam County, GA census. No details were given. It just lists him solo without any details.
Thomas also appears in the 1850 census in Newton County, GA.This census lists his age as 45 years and his birth year as 1805.It lists his wife as Elizabeth (age 40).It also lists his children: Malekizadie (M 17),Pinkey (M 13), Charles (M 11), Mary (F 8), Uriah (M 4), and Fields (M 3).
Notice Uriah is listed here.So it seems that Thomas was indeed Uriah's father.
Some posters have said they have dug up court proceedings where Thomas was sued by his sister over their father's estate.Their father was named Alexander Voss.
So my question:Does anyone have info on Thomas' father Alexander?Any records at all? Also has anyone been able to trace the line *beyond* Alexander?
I am anxious to hear from anyone with Uriah in their line and anyone who has traced this line beyond Alexander.
