William Joseph Vautier was born 27 March 1840 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and died 18 February 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.He was the son of Peter Vautier and Sarah Young, and the grandson of Dominique Vautier and Maria Louisa De Laittre.
William served between 20 August 1862 - 03 June 1865 with the 29th PA infantry during the Civil War, as a private in company E.He was injured by a gunshot wound to his left arm while serving in Tennessee and was discharged from the Army.He lived for a good portion of his life at 3183 Belgrade, according to the 1900 Census, his Civil War Pension file, and his death record, and worked as a butter-and-egg dealer, a janitor, and a gardener, according to various United States Censuses.
He married Catherine E. Miller 07 September 1871 in Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Trinity, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.She was born 07 September 1851 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and died 04 February 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.She was the daughter of Jacob Miller and Helen M. F. Sheets.
Catherine was also known as Kathryn, according to some of the people who also have been researching her.I've also heard a rumor that the "E" could stand for "Elizabeth."
Both of them are buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and William may even have a Veteran’s tombstone on his grave.I don’t know.
William and Catherine had eleven children: Helen M., Sarah Miller, Jacob Miller, William J., Miriam Crosby, Ellerslie W., Julia Ann, Daniel M., Ann Grubb, Laura Elizabeth, and James Wilson.I have some info on Sarah Miller, Julia Ann, and James Wilson’s descendants.William J., Ellerslie,Ann Grubb and Laura Elizabeth all died without marrying or leaving descendants.
