My great-grandfather was Allen C. WADE, son of a Joseph WADE and a Mary. From his brother Joseph S. WADE's Civil War enlistment record, I know that the family was in Jay Co., Indiana in 1840. They are listed on the 1840 census in Jay County, and the ages and genders of the children match up perfectly with what I already know of the family, with the addition of one unexpected girl. There are a few other WADEs in the same area, and Josiah WADE is about the right age to be Joseph's father. The others (Robert and Jefferson) could possibly be brothers of Joseph. Land patents show that their land was close to one another, and my Joseph's land adjoined Harrison WADE's. (Harrison was a younger brother of Jefferson.)
I've done some research on these various WADEs to see if I can establish more than a circumstantial connection, and discovered that they originated in Adams Co., Ohio. However, I have been unable to place my Joseph with conviction into this family. All the circumstantial evidence adds up, but I have yet to find anything definite.
Do any of you have information that can confirm or disprove the connection of my Joseph WADE to the WADEs of Jay Co, Indiana and Adams Co, Ohio? Thank you!
