This may help you.My family is from Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky.Great Grandfather is Joseph Russel Wagers, Grandfather is Steven Russel Wagers, Dad is Harold Ray Wagers and I am Steven Michael Wagers (Guadlupe Sanchez Wagers/wife, Mikaela Louise Wagers/daughter).I have a brother Greg Allen Wagers. My mother is Louise Elaine (Hayes) Wagers from Wilson, North Carolina. Dad has a book titled "The History of Clay County Kentucky".It was research by a family who still lives in Clay County today. There you will find several families to include the Wagers. The book states that four brothers left North Carolina in 1776 for the fronteer (Kentucky). My clan settled in what is now Manchester/Burning Springs Kentucky. Grandpa died in 1983 however my Grandma Lola (McDaniels) Wagers is still alive. Her clan is also from Manchester, Kentucky. To my knowledge there has never been a "Wager" connected to our group. They have always been "Wagers".It is Welsh in origion. The surname Wager or Wagner are sometimes Germanic in origion. We are "island people". Stephen Wagers from Austin had a question about his Grandfather, Charles Wagers. If he is from Richmond Kentucky, he is a distant cousin of Grandpa's (one of the origional four brothers). Dad was career Airforce, retired to Florida in 1974. I went to high school in Brooksville, Florida. Attended college at Eastern Kentucky University and played football under Roy Kidd. I now live in McKinney, Texas. Hope this helps. Most "Wagers" looking for their ancestors will find their way back to the hills of Kentucky and one of the four brothers who left North Carolina in 1776. I would like information on the Isle(Welsh/Scot/Irish) side of our family history. Any leads?
