Thanks Dee! I was pretty sure that "Wagle" and "Weagle" were the same. It does help strengthen my theory that the Carters were associated with the Foxes and Wagles as far back as the early 1800's in Montgomery County, Kentucky. I'm hoping that exploring the history of all these families will help me gain some insights into the mystery of my Carters.
I'm a little confused about John Wagle and Elizabeth Cooper being married in Jasper County IL in 1805. Jasper was part of Crawford County until the early 1830's. James and Asa Wagle purchased public land in Jasper County in the 1830's. (Confusion here too. The transcription of the land sales states that the land was purchased in Iowa. Could "IA" have been interpreted as Iowa instead of Indiana?)
