I am researching my great grandparents history. My Great grandmother was from Norway.A summary of her obituary is:
"Mrs. Ole Pederson Wagle was born Sept 26, 1863 in Sandnes, Norway, a suburb of Stavanger, and spent her early life there. In 1881, she married O.P. Wagle & the couple migrated to Valley City, ND."
Ellis Island records show they arrived on June 25, 1892.Mrs. Wagle's obituary in 1946, says they migrated in 1882.Exactly 10 years off from the Ellis records.I believe that the obituary is in error for that date. It is also interesting that the Ellis manifest shows they used quotes for the information and then wrote the correct information at the bottom of their entry. They are listed with the wrong ethnicity, place of residence and destination, which should read Norway and Valley City.
With my family, I am discovering many name variations. One is the Wagle was really Wogle & Vogle in Norway. It is also interesting that Mrs. O.P. Wagle used two first names. Some papers say Mary & others say Anna.My mother remembers that her grandparents mostly refused to speak English, but did learn enough to speak to her.She also says that she remembers them saying that they changed their name to Wagle, which was really my great grandmother's maiden name.
I would appreciate any information you may have about the Wagle (Wogle or Vogle) family from Norway.
