Hi Karen, I actually thought this board was dead...I hadn't looked at the dates on other posts until after I had put in my post on the code of arms.
Anyways, I'm not sure if this will be of any help or not...as I think I had mentioned in my post, the sites I found with the Walczak name listed didn't give you -anything- unless you pay first...I just simply saw the Walczak name listed as being available. The first one that I found was http://family-crests.comhttp://family-crests.com.They charge $14.99 to e-mail you a .jpg of your family crest and there's no information as to the authentisity so needless to say...I am quite sceptical. I also found the Walczak name listed at http://shop.store.yahoo.com/4crests/coatofarfamc21.htmlhttp://shop.store.yahoo.com/4crests/coatofarfamc21.html, but again -nothing- unless you pay first.Since theres nothing in regards to how genuine this is, or anything to specify the family affiliation, I really don't want to spend the money until I know for sure that it is correct. Not to sound overly sceptical, but for all I know, someone could simply be sitting at a computer with a decent graphics program and just slapping stuff together regarless of authentisity and saying "here ya go...this is your family".As a graphic artst myself, I know how easy it would be to do this, and in fact -could- do it myself...so obviously I'm being very cautious here. Also, I have looked at a number of other websites that appear to be reputable and have seen no reference whatsoever to the Walczak name.On the other hand, I have also checked those sites for my wifes family, Markus (Slovak), who does have a family crest and have found no reference to that name either so I'm not sure what to think. There was one last site, that I can't find anymore that did have an example, -BUT- after running my wifes family name thru it, the example graphic was the exact same image, so I didn't bother to persue it any further...that one was definatly a scam.
Probably worth mentioning, that I have seen 1 family crest (not on the internet...in a bar in downtown Cleveland actually) that -supposedly- was related to our family, but the spelling was slightly different....Walzak.It was simply a triangular shield with 3 circles or "balls"in the center (rather boring and unimpressive actually) and looking back, I honestly think it was a different family...but it was -many- years ago and I could be mistaken.
Unfortunatly, I do not know anything really about my family history. This portion of the Walczak family is not very close at all.I grew up in the same city as my cousins (my father's, brother's children), but we never kept any kind of contact. There were one or two family reunions when I was -very- young, but they never seemed to go well from what I remember and there have been none that I've known of for many many years.I know my fathers parents names were Chester and Jean, and I believe they were both born here in the US, but thats about all I really know.Grampa Chester died before I was born and Grandma Jean died when I was 2 so I never knew either of them. While my father is still alive, we actually don't talk all that much any more and the little that I have discussed with him on the topic, he really doesn't seem to know much more about the family other then "we were all Polish" then I have been able to discover...one of these days I'll sit down with him over a few beers and see if I can pry anymore info out of him :-)
I am still researching this, but have not had much luck on the internet. Also this has had to take a back seat to other projects I have going on at the moment (time and money wise), but I will eventually get back to it. If and or when I do find something though, I would be more then happy to let you know about it :-) My main interest in this really was simply as a graphic artist more then anything...I thought if I could find something on the internet, that perhaps I could maybe do a nice print out to have in the house (an perhaps for my portfolio). If no family crest exists, then it has also crossed my mind that if I could find enough information on the family (and heraldry in general), that perhaps I could, again as a graphics artist, actually design one myself, but I'm a very long ways from that...
Anyways, it was nice to hear from you :-)It kind of upset me after I had written my post when I looked at the dates of the other posts...I really thought my attempt at this was in vain.I will have to keep an eye on this board from time to time to see if there's anyone else still around out there!
I wish you Bright Blessing's & Gentle Breeze's, Tim
