Chuck, Thank you for your kind post. I know this family well.
Dr. Benjamin Waldo and his wife Sarah Lipscomb Waldo moved from Madison Co., FL to Marion County about 1855 and lived on their plantation, called 'Pine Hill' about 3 miles from Ocala. Originally they were from Newberry and Edgefield, South Carolina, moving to Florida about 1847. Waldo, Florida is named for Dr. Waldo.
Joseph Warren Waldo was the oldest son. He served in the Civil War in Co. E, 2nd Florida Cavalry and married 29 Nov 1870 Cornelia Jessie (Nell) Owens. "Abbie" is actually Albie (Albigence Lamar Waldo, my great grandfather). "Miss Sue" is Susan Lipscomb Waldo who married (1873)Thomas Sumter Mays. I do not know who "Lipscomb" might have been, but many Lipscomb cousins lived in Madison County. While Sue's middle name was Lipscomb, there was no Waldo child named Lipscomb. Sarah Lipscomb Waldo died in 1867, Dr. Waldo in 1871. Joseph Warren Waldo died 1873. Dr. & Mrs. Waldo were originally buried at Long Swamp Church cemetery, but were moved to the Old City Cemetery in Ocala where J. W. Waldo was buried.
