Diana,It is nice that you have so many eligible Waldrops. So many of us have "womaned" out or have only one elegible male in our line.
There is DNA that passes male to male from generation to generation. So, we certainly don't need "all" your brothers, uncles and cousins. They should all be from the same ancestor and would have the same DNA for this purpose. So, one will do.Of course, they could all chip in to buy the kit. That would be nice.
The next step is to go to www.familytreedna.com.Follow the links to the Waldrop Surname Project. The participant can sign up for the test on the website.Have him be sure he is on the "WALDROP" Project. There is a discount involved and we want the results to be on our project.
The DNA test itself is painless. When the kit arrives, the participant scrapes the inside of his cheek with a toothbrush type apparatus and sends it back in the vial and envelope provided. No blood..haha.
Then, we will need the participant's ancestry. His father, grandfather, grgrandfather, as far back as you know. Please email this information to me at [email protected].
Rest assured that the drip, drop, drup, droup, etc. spelling has no meaning until after about 1900 in most cases...when our ancestors learned to read and write, they settled into one spelling.Prior to that, the spelling is meaningless. So, the project is called WaldrOp, but includes all spellings.
Did I answer your questions?
