I solved (partially) my brick wall with Violet Waldrop in Greenville. But I'm stuck moving forward from her.
The one fact my grandmother had wrong was that she implied Violet was 5-10 years older than her.Instead they were about the same age. She's mislabeled in the 1930 census as "Viold" Waldrop (though the form is clearly "Violet") and she was born in 1915.
This gave me her parents J.B. (John) & Hattie (Johnson) Waldrop.Looking up their death certificates, I find that J.B. did in fact die in 1931 from infection following a railroad accident where his leg was amputated. The mother was ill in that same year from uterine cancer and died later the same year.
So my info from two different sources was accurate on that score.Violet was orphaned at 16.Supposedly there is a brother Jake and I find a J.C. Waldrop with the family in 1910 (b 1908).I cannot find them in 1920 at all to possibly get another first name for J.C. or middle name initial for Violet.
Going to order the obits to see if I can find who J.C. actually is and if he's alive.
Hattie's parents are John A. Johnson and Sarah Tiny Sprinkle. This Sarah was my main brick wall trying to get to Violet because she was the one missing sibling in my grandmother's father's family.Ironically her husband John is the brother of Sarah's sister Hattie's husband William.I know sisters marrying brothers is not uncommon, but it's ironic to me in this case because they changed states to do so.
Finally there are some records in the Greenville County indexes concerning the disposition of J.B. Waldrop's estate when he died and then guardianship of Violet when her mom dies.Several of these items are online, but cannot find my particular entries.
