Hi Mark,
My gg-grandfather, John Burroughs Walke, was born at Fairfield in 1843 and ended up after the Civil War in Wythe County Virginia, which is in SW Virginia.I have done extensive documentation and research on the Walke family from Princess Anne County VA.This includes all the dates, as well as how all of these relationships intertwined.I have to take exception, however, to your assertion that the Walkes were all Union sympathizers. The majority of Walkes fought for the Confederacy, with the exception of Rear Admiral Henry Walke who left Princess Anne as a young man.He participated in the Mexican American War, most notably at the Battle of Veracruz, and was already in his 50s at the time of Civil War.He was my gggg-grandfather Anthony's first cousin.Late in life he returned for a nostalgic tour of the area and wrote about that in his notes. He is buried in Brooklyn.Norfolk and Princess Anne were all under Union occupation for the majority of the war.I have never encountered a single Walke family member, the the exception of Admiral Walke, who fought for the Union.
Nonetheless, I would be happy to share my files with anyone who would be interested.
Look forward to hearing from you.
