Well, I have to throw out my first theory but still think that Frances Mae Wallen was born in 1840 (September 15). There was not a mistake in the 1840 census -- I miss read and miss calculated that one in my hopes for an answer. I now believe that my Frances was nine at the time of the 1850 census. Somehow the "9" was transposed as a "7" giving her an incorrect birthdate which was later mistakingly used by her son-in-law on her gravestone. I do not believe that Frances discussed her actual age with her family as she was a little older than her husband and may have been sensitive about that fact. I am still looking for proof and would appreciate any help out there.
