Hi Ruth, I am married into the Weddell's from Jackson County, Indiana. They are also known as, Weddle, Weddel et cetera. I have the Weddle's married into the Wallen/Walling family also. I have ordered a copy of Elizabeth Meutings book about the Weddle's. A woman named Judy Weddle Ward e-mailed me that she would copy her book AFTER I sent $40 to her.I sent the $40 on 9-30-02 and sent a letter of inquiry on 10-28-2002. I have not received the copy of the book yet or a reply to my letter!! It has been 6 weeks!
I am trying to locate the parents of Hiram L. Weddle, he married Martha Harmon 7-28-1842 in Jackson County.
I think James R. Weddle b. 1793 in Hawkins Co., TN., d. aft. 1860 in Jackson Co., IN., and wife Elizabeth Mundy, b. 1798 in North Carolina, married 16 Oct 1820 in Mercer, KY. are the parents of "my" Hiram L. Weddle.
Hiram L. is not on any charts that I can find to prove he is a son of James & Elizabeth BUT, I was told that Hiram has a brother, Andrew and the two brothers, Hiram L. and Andrew married two sisters, Harmon girls. Andrew is listed as the first child of James Weddle and Elizabeth Mundy Well, I have the marriage certificates of both couples, Andrew Weddle to Sarah Harmon and Hiram L. Weddle to Martha Harmon. It does not prove they are brother's but I must be getting close! (Also, I have the Will of John Harmon, father of Sarah and Martha where he names his daughter's but only one son-in-law and that son-in-law is married to another daughter of John Harmon. So the Will proves the Harmon girls are sisters.
There is also a huge gap in the births of children of Elizabeth Mundy Weddle, she had;
# 1.)Andrew Weddle b. 3 Aug 1818 # 2.)Amos W. Weddle 10 May 1821
("My" Hiram L. Weddle was b. 1823 so he "fits in" here.)
then, 9 years go by until the birth of her next child;
# 3.)Henry Weddle b. 16 Feb 1830 # 4.)Isaac Yount Weddle b. 8 Jul 1833 # 5.)Elizabeth Mariah Weddle b. 1836
I have no idea how to prove Hiram L. is a child of James and Elizabeth Weddle's. I keep hoping for that Meuting book but I don't think I am going to be receiving a book at this point. I think my $40 is just gone. I think 6 weeks would be long enough to copy a book. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks, Theresa Weddell email@example.com Austin, Texas
