I have found a colonial-era gold mourning ring inscribed with Bethia Walley's name, and her date of birth & death (March 3, 1723 & Jan. 21, 1747). My limited research has shown that Bethia was the unmarried daughter of John & Bethia Walley of Boston, MA. I'm trying to find out who may have worn and eventually lost this ring. Based on it's small size I would guess it was a woman, perhaps one of her surviving sisters? (Mary or Elizabeth). Elizabeth only lived 7 years longer than Bethia. The ring appears to have more than just 7 years of wear to it. My guess would be that it belonged to Mary (died at Ipswich in 1786). The one missing link that I can't find an answer to is Mary's connection to the town the ring was lost in (Sudbury, MA). Do any of you who may have tracked the genealogy of the Walley Family of Boston, MA. know of any connection that they may have had with the town of Sudbury?
P.S. The ring is stamped HURD. Hurd was a prominent goldsmith of that era and I believe was somehow connected by marriage to the Walley family.
