My great grandmother is Carrie M. Wallin Brown, she listed her place of birth as Cayuga County, N.Y. about 1847.She lists her parents place of birth as "England", in all census data, starting from 1880.She married a man who had served in the Civil War & when he died & to get his pension she had to list her history.
She was orphaned as an infant, was given to the Von Ostrand's to raise in Cayuga County, N.Y. then at age 16, when her brother, John, returned from the Civil War, she lived with him, he moved to Iowa & then she went to live with her sister, Mary, who had married Horace Christian of Cayuga County, N.Y.
At age 32, she was in Calhoun County, MI & married my gr grandfather, Harmon G. Brown, who was from Cayuga County, NY & was living in IN.They married in May 1879, she 32 & he 49.In 1880 she had my grandfather in Steuben COunty, IN & then the family moved to South Dakota.Mr. Brown died in 1894 & she returned to Steuben County, IN & then to MI to live with her youngest son, Guy H. Brown. She died in 1920 in Michigan.
So, all the records come from testimony given to receive a widow's pension.I do not know what happened to her brother, John Wallin. Her marriage license in MI misspelled her name "Walling", but in testimony it is Wallin.
Just curious since your posting was for Iowa & a Wallin/g.I am curious about her origins & siblings.
