I have a dead end that is driving me nuts. There is so much Walling info out there & yet on the forums I can't seem to make a connection or get a response. Perhaps this book would be a help as my Walling married a Wilder.
Eden Walling b. RI or NY (different info on various censuses & son's death certificate) married listed differently in censuses & hard to read death cert. Annie/Anna/Emma/Ruby (we blieve Anna & must have been nicknamed Ruby.. have seen other nicknames used in censuses before.. not sure why but it seems to happen) Wilder b. NY, they had a son Joseph Eden Walling b. 1/16/1838 Richland, Oswego co, NY. who moved to & was married in Beloit Wisconsin where he was registered into the Civil war along w/ an Eden Walling that I assume is a brother. My Joseph Eden Walling also lived in Pipestone, MN & later in Butte, NE and is buried in Butte Cemetery, Butte, Boyd co, NE.
A book from the Pipestone County Museum, Historical Society: has him listed in a veterans book. That according to a 1890 Special Federal Census Schedule for Surviving Soldiers, he enlisted as a Private in CO. I, 22nd Wisconsin Infantry on 8/5/1862 & served until 1/3/1863 -just under 5 months. Later in the war, he re-enlisted as a Sergeant n CO. H of the 47th Wisconsin Infantry, serving from 2/3/1865 to 9/4/1865 7 months 1 day.He was also a prominent member of the GAR in Butte, Body, NE. Here is a link that has his picture & his brother listed, along w/ my Atwood, Bennetts.
A 1885 census for the village of Pipestone in MN has Joseph Eden Walling 47 (b. NY), wife Elizabeth 46 (a native of OH), Mary 17 bron in MN, Anna Walling 40 b. NY believed to be Joseph Eden Walling's sister.
Surely someone out there can link my Wallings to the proper family.
