I have a number of questions about the children of Jerome B. Walling (son of Gabriel Walling and Lucy Ann Rorick) and Sarah Leaverton and their families:
Inman Walling (born about 1829 in Illinois). There is a record of him marring Nancy B. Springer 5 Apr 1857 in Yamhill County, OR and divorcing in 1859.Jerome Walling's will, probated in 1897, mentions Inman's daughter, Gertrude Walling Bishop, aged about 42, who was then living in Garfield, Whitman County, WA.If she was 42 in 1897, then that puts her birthdate likely before the marriage of Nancy B. Springer in 1855.I cannot find her with in the 1860 census with Inman, who was living alone at the time in a household next to his parents and siblings.Who was Gertrude's mother? What was Gertrude's husband name?Did they have any children.
Jasper Walling (born about 1832 in Illinois).I can find him in the 1860 census in Tiah, Wasco County, OR, working as a laborer, but haven't yet located him afterwards.Where did he go after 1860?
Lucy Walling (born 22 Jan 1834 in Muscatine County, Idaho). Her first husband was named Carlos Buffum, who died in 1854 in Oregon. They had a daughter named Sarah, born about 1851, for whom Jerome Walling was appointed guardian. What happened to this daughter?Did she die young?I cannot trace her after the guardianship hearing.Lucy subsequently married John Loosley, and that family is well-documented.
Mary Walling (born about 1836 in Illinois). She married T.B. Jackson, who was born about 1833 in Virginia and they eventually lived in Boise, ID.They had five children I've been able to identify:Asa, Susan, William, George, John.I've been able to trace a little more information on Susan, who was born in 1856 in Oregon. She married John C. Durant in 1875 in Oregon, and the family appears in the 1880 census in Yamhill County, Oregon. The page on which the family appears in water spotted, and the name of a daughter is illegible. Can anyone identify this daughter? There is also a son, Victor P. Durant, also known as Paul V. Durant, who is three years old in 1880.I've found him again in the 1920 census in Boise, ID with his wife Dora, and son, John v. Durant, aged two.Mary Walling Jackson seems to have passed away prior to 1893, when her father wrote his will, as he says that her children have been provided for in his lifetime and will not share in his estate for that reason. When and where did Mary die?In probate filings for Jerome's will, only three of Mary's children are listed as living in 1897:Susan Jackson Durant, William Jackson, and George Jackson. What happened to Asa and John?Did William and George marry and have children?
Fletcher Walling (born Feb. 1838 in Iowa). He married Minnie Reed 30 Jul 1876 in Yamhill County, Oregon. In 1889, he was the subject of commitment proceedings in Tillamook County, Oregon, and seems to have spent the rest of his life in the state insane asylum. His share of his father's estate is to be held in trust for him until he can become capable of the "management of his own person and estate."What happened to Minnie?Did she and Fletcher have any children?
Rosalie Walling (born 16 Nov 1844 in Iowa). Her first husband was named Alexander DeWeese, and they had children named Sarah, Henrietta, Sidney, and John S. all born in Oregon.I can only trace one of these children after the 1880 census where there are living in Boise, Idaho either with Rosalie's parents (Jerome and Sarah) or with Rosalie and her second husband, Isaac Porter Gile.In 1880, their last name is badly transcribed as Louise.Sidney L. Deweese appears in the 1920 census in Iron Dyke, Baker County, Oregon, with his wife, Frances, and a son, Sidney G. DeWeese. There is also a stepson, George W. Bober, which may provide a clue to Frances's identity. What happened to the other DeWeese children? In 1920, Rosalie Walling is listed in the household of a son from her second marriage, Edward V. Gile, and his wife Emma, in Portland, Oregon. Her name is given as Rosalie Turner. When did Isaac Porter Gile die?Can anyone provide additional information on Mr. Turner, who seems to have been her third husband?I'd also like to know what became of some of her other children with Isaac Gile:Francis Marion Gile (b. 3 Jan 1880 in Boise), Walter Gile (b. 17 Jan 1883 in Boise), and Bertha Augusta Gile (b. 29 Aug 1885 in Boise).I have found two marriages for a Bertha A. Gile in Idaho:one to John L. McGee in 1902 in Boise and one to E.A. Moss in 1907 in Caldwell, Canyon County, ID.Are either or both of these the right Bertha?
Caroline Walling (born about 1850 in the Oregon Territory). She married James Mullany 4 Jul 1868 in Boise, Ada County, ID, and had at least one son, William R. Mullany. Can anyone trace this family further?
Enos Clark Walling (born 29 Mar 1856 in Boise, ID).He seems to have married twice.First marriage to Annie Clemans and second marriage to Mary/Molly Zemmer, both marriages taking place in Idaho. He is enumerated in the 1880 census on Alturas County, ID with Ann/Annie and two children, Jesse and Anne.I cannot trace Jesse and Anne after 1880.I would also be interested in additional information on his sons from the second marriage, Raymond and Theodore, and believe that they may have eventually moved to Oregon and then to California.
Jerome had other children, but those lines are much more well-documented and published on the web.Much of the information contained in this message came from following clues in his will.Any assistance/additional information would be much appreciated.
