James Wallis Stalcup was my great grandfather. His parents were William Riley and Perlina Jane (Cloyd) Stalcup. They were born in TN and KY. They couple moved to Garvin county Indian Territory (OK) in 1859. The census record states that he was living there by permission, doesn't say about Perlina. I am assuming that James was born in OK, could have been TX. I am struggling with some of the information pertaining to Perlina's mother (I don't think the person generally listed to be her mother is in fact her mother considering ages, dates etc). Because Perlina named her son Wallis, I wonder if she named him for a maternal family member and possibly her maiden name. Perlina may have been the child of John with a "first" wife or was adopted or raised by he and his wife Mary. John definitely was married to Mary "Polly" O'Banion about 1835 and after her death to Victoria Williams. Perlina knew the O'Banion family based on a deed transfer before she and Wm moved to OK. Thus far I am not doubting that John was Perlina's father. Perlina was born April 1830 supposedly in KY. Haven't found that document as yet either. I think her mother died between 1831 and 1835. I have no substantial Wallis information. Anything anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
