The brazilian Wanderley family is very large and its members are spread out all over the major part of the brazilian states. The first Wanderley to step on brazilian soil was Gaspar van der Ley, a cavalry captain that came to Brazil in the first half of the XVII Century leading troops that ensured the Dutch dominion of Brazil during the period 1624 to 1654. After the Portuguese expelled the Dutch, Gaspar decided to stay in Brazil and there gave origin to the brazilian Wanderley family.
