Three Wardlaw brothers came to S. C. from the original Virginia homestead in 1768. My ancestor was John,age,31, Hugh and Joseph, both younger. John, my 4th great grandfater, had eight children, five were boys. They were, John, William, Samuel,James and Hugh.Hugh had a son,John, that would been of the age to be a senior cadet at the outbreak of the Civil war. I have no record of his middle initial, however his mother was Lydia Calvert. We know it was very common to carry a parents family name as a middle name. I know this to be true because, John married his 1st cousin, Mary, daughter of my 3rd great grandfather, William.I hope this helps in your research.
