Hi Maureen, I am searching for any information that you might have concerning the following Wardle family:
1. Isabella Wardle, d/o George Wardle and Mary, was born Feb. 4, 1856 in Washington, Durham, England, and was baptized there at Washington ( Straith? ) Chapel. Isabella Wardle married John Sykes in Felling, Durham, England on Feb. 10?, 1880 at Christ Church. Isabella ( Wardle ) Sykes died Oct. 3, 1900 and is buried in the Mossley Cemetery...she died in Mossley, and had previously lived in Saddleworth. Her husband, John Sykes, was born in ca. 1857 in Golcar, s/o John Sykes and mother unknown.
2. According to the 1861 census of Washington, Durham, England, George Wardell ( Wardle ) was living in Washington Woodside in Washington, Durham, with wife, Mary ( b. Tanfreald?, Durham ), and with their children: Elizabeth(20), George(18), William(16), Alice(14), Mary Eleanor(12), Richard(10), Mary Jane(8), and ISABELLA (6). According to this 1861 census, George Wardell ( Wardle ) was 43 ( b.c. 1818 ) and was born in Sunderland, Durham. He was a reil maker.
3. After Isabella ( Wardle ) Sykes died in 1900 in Mossley, her husband, John Sykes ( b.c. 1857 in Golcar; s/o John ) emmigrated to New Bedford, MA., USA in 1906 where his brother, Benjamin Sykes had emmigrated in 1892.
