Hello Faye. It is indeed a pleasure to hear from you via Genforum. I suspected you were out there somewhere, but did not have a married name to work with. You are the daughter of Telton and Joy White Wattis, correct?
My mother, Doris "Dee" Gleason Herbert was raised for much of her life by Mattie. My grandfather, William Charles Gleason, adopted my mom in October, 1928. His wife, Cora Alice McGimsey Gleason, died shortly after (March 1930). Since he was a professor and away from home much of the time, he left Dee with Mattie in Cotton Valley.
Did you know that Mattie had also raised three of William Thomas Gleason's children after his wife died in 1909? William Thomas was my great grandfather (William Charles' father).
I have worked on our family histories for many years now as time allows. There is much to do, since both my mom and my dad were adopted. There are adopting and birth parents for my dad, and birth, adopting, and also those who raised my mom (Mattie).
My brother Jeff and I were in Cotton Valley, Minden and Shreveport earlier this month. We have property holdings that were passed down from my mom. We visited the Cotton Valley Cemetery and saw flowers on Mattie's grave. I suspected you had left them.
I look forward to maintaining contact with you and sharing our family histories. Please contact me by email at .
