Hi,I happened to see your message and I do know the people you are talking of,we may even be related. My mother's name is Sarah but she is known as Sally, called after the Sarah you speak of and my grandmother is was also Sarah although she was known as Dolly because she was born on the 12th of July some song about Dolly's Brae!
Her brother was Sammy, now dead, brother Harry, now dead,a sister called Grace, living 80yrs old and another sister Sissy, living,so they would all be your cousins. Their mother,Martha Watton was my great-grandmother,she married Samuel Downes and they lived in Belfast.
My grandmother died in September 1997.She and Grace and Sissy went to Blackpool every year and would meet up with relatives their, someone called Lil.
I would often ask my mum to tell me about the children being brought out of care and going into service.I can remember my great grandmother and everyone has fond memories of her and her gentleness and kindness,it runs in the family,my great aunt Grace still won't let you leave her house without taking something with you, cake etc:My grandmother was the same and nearly forced food upon you. As for Uncle Sammy(greatuncle),he died a couple of years ago 2003.My husband and I ended up with his fridge and super ser on the insistance of aunt Grace!! One of Grace's sons is called Sammy, the other Billy,(twins)
My mother absolutely loved her grandmother Martha, everyone did and still love to hear about her and her sisters,as the name runs in the family we hope to name our first daughter Sarah. I hope you get this,I also hope it was of some help, would love to hear back from you,Tracey.
