I came across this information on William W. Watts service record.
From U. S. Army enlistments, War of 1812
No. 5522, Watts, William W., Rank Sergeant, Reg. 5th U. S. Inf., Commanding Officer Capt. N. Long. (My note -- Nimrod Long of Culpeper Co., Virginia.)
Description: 5 ft., 11 3/4 inches tall, eyes grey, hair brown, fair complexion, age 31, b. Virginia.
Enlisted June 7, 1808, by whom Capt. Long, period 5 years.
Remarks:
Monthly Return Sept. 30, Dec 31/08, and Jany 24/09 present. G. O. Camp Washington March 3/10, transferred to Capt Nicholas Co. Regtl Order July 20/10 (Capt. Nicholas Co.) present. Orders Sept. 19/10, Tried by Court Martial Neglect of Duty, acquitted. Again Sept. 23/10: disobedience of orders. To be reduced to a private. Pardoned.
Again Oct. 12/10. Conduct unbecoming a N. C. officer. Acquitted.
Capt. Walter H. Overton's Co. Book 213. 7th U. S. Inf., appointed Sergeant June 7/08, reduced Oct. 31/12, and promoted to Sergeant Jany 1/13. Discharged June 6/13. Reenlisted by Captain Overton, at Fort Claiborne, Sept. 18/13 for the war, aged 37 years. Appointed Sergeant Sept. 18/13. Discharged at Fort Claiborne, La, May 31/15, term expired. See pension case. (I'm still hunting for this record.)
