Old query -- just saw it today - Most desc. of Jacob Chamlee are spelled Chamlee (no b) EXCEPT George Washington Chamblee and Tanner living in Gwinnet Co GA 1820 census apparently spelled the name WITH the b.There is much discussion about Lydia Chamlee/Chamblee -- I must deal with it later, but amongst our Chamlee records there IS a dau of GW Chamblee and C. Adeline Tanner named Lydia - no further info on her. The name Chamlee and Chamblee have been recorded on various instruments with both spellings - same family.
The above George Washington Chamlee (m. Tanner) was supposedly a son of William and Dorcas Sego Chamlee, with Wm/Dorcas moving from the Anderson, SC, area to Hall Co GA prior to 1820. In the 1868 Adm. of the Estate of William Chamlee (husband of Dorcas), Tilmon P. Chamlee, executor, one of the legatees was Lydia A. Wayne. Her portion of the estate was signed for by J. J. Wayne. There is much more to this about which I am not knowledgable -- I am appreciative of the information posted to GEN FORUM.
My husband is Tilmon Perkins Chamlee born 1933.His grandfather was Tilmon Perkins Chamlee born 1866 died 1902.
