Caroline
Thank you for the information. Since my original posting, I have tracked my wife's family back. We even spent a week in Cambria about two years ago, staying in Ebensburg and visiting all the surrounding towns and cemeteries. I can tell why they settled there and stayed put for so long. Really beautiful country.
Her family goes from Adeline to her father James Jacob, (1792-1878) and mother Ruth Farrell(1794-1870) and James Jacob back to his parents John Jr (1758-1854 and Catherine Jackson (1769-1861") and then John Sr. bef. 1740 - abt. 1815) and Mary Susan Cunningham. John Sr. had three sons John Jr. William and Zephaniah and a daughter Susan - I think they all settled in or near Loretto, Cambria Co. Pa.
I think your grandfather Harvey must be Harvey M. Weakland (1888-1977) living in Chest Springs. I have his parents being Michael J. Weakland and MAry Burley (1859-1922). Michael's parents are John W. (1825-1870 and MAtilda (1827-aft.1870).
I have him linked with a Michael Weakland (abt 1795-aft. 1870) and Maraie Gardner (1799-aft. 1850). This michael is the son of Zephaniah Weakland (1762-1864) and Catherine
Zephaniah of course, links to John Sr. I show traces of him in the 1790 Huntingdon Co. PA Census and a Bedford Co. land patent in 1786.
It may be that my JohnSr. is your John 1726. This puts us one generation off from the immigrant John and the Princess.
We weere just discussing this story this weekend with some of my wife's cousins.I have not found the Weakland name on the published rosters of the Dove, but I will continue looking. MAryland has done a great job in putting early records on line.I will post anything else I find.
