My great-grandfather J.E. Webb, the son of James W. Webb and Sarah Cook Webb was a blacksmith in Elbert County in the early 1900's.He was born 03 Mar 1876, married Ola Jackson (a Mattox decendant) 01 Aug 1896, and died 06 Feb 1963.The obit is copied below.James W. Webb's father was Gaines T. Webb, born 26 Jun 1821, married Martha A. McClanhan 16 Dec 1852, and died 08 Oct 1890.If any of the Webbs in Elbert County, GA and/or surrounding areas has any history of this Webb family, I am really stuck trying to learn this Webb line earlier than Ganies T. J.E. Webb Rites Held This Morning
Jeptha Elliott Webb, 86 years old, died Wednesday morning at 10:45 at his home at 216 Edwards street.He had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for two weeks. He was a native of Elbert county, a son of the late James and Sarah Cook Webb. He retired from business several years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held this morning at 11 o'clock from the First Baptist Church.The Rev O. M. Seigler and the Rev. Roland Walker officiated.Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery.Martin Funeral Home was in charge.
Active pall bearers were John Griffith, Clyde Williams, Morris Webb, Adger Moore, George Ward and Marvin Broadwell.
Members of the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church and members of the First Baptist Church and members of the Berean Sunday School Class served as honorary escort.Others in the escort were Verner Auld, Fred Auld, Wilton Auld, A.O. Bracey Jr., L.L. Stovall, Charlie Bryan, Bill McMullan, W.E. Smith, Jule Eavenson, Fred Vandiver.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ola Jackson Webb; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Haynes, of Elberton; a sister, Pearl Crenshaw of Birmingham, Ala; three brothers, Dr. John H. Webb, Ontario, Calif, G.C. Webb of Elberton and Ira Webb of Lake Worth, Fla; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tempie Harris Webb of Athens; seven grandchildren, and 11 great- grandchildren.
