I suspect that the wife of William WEDGEWOOD in the Home District in 1837 was named Mary as there was an Ellen WEDGEWOOD, d/o William & Mary who married a Joseph McBRIDE on 30 Sept 1858, in Peel Co.Joseph was born in Canada, age 23, and was a resident of Toronto twp Peel Co (s/o Joseph & Mary).Ellen WEDGEWOOD was age 22, born in England and resident of Toronto twp.
I checked the 1851 census for Etobicoke twp, and found no Wedgewoods there at that time.
We get even luckier though when we find the marriage registration for William Jr. WEDGEWOOD as he gives his mother's maiden name - BROWN (s/o Wm Wedgewood & Mary BROWN).He was living in Toronto twp on 25 Jan 1860 which is when the marriage was - he married Elizabeth McBRIDE, age 21, born in & resident of Toronto twp, d/o James McBRIDE & Elizabeth MOORE.This marriage record was found in the the parish records for the Presbyterian church of Brampton and Derry West, Ontario Archives microfilm MS 248, reel 13.
It was the same "church" where David WEDGEWOOD (perhaps brother to Wm Jr) married Margaret MOORE.The complication here is that David gives his parents' names as William WEDGEWOOD and Mary SMITH!
David was age 33 in 1875 when he married (dateof marriage was 17 Nov 1875), therefore born about 1842ish while Wm was age 25 in 1860, therefore born abt 1825ish.A second wife?A transcription error?Certainly though the Wedgewood, McBride & Moore families are inter-connected.
Shall have to find the 1851 census for Toronto twp.
