One nice thing about having the name Weersing, the name is so rare and unusual that you know when you come across someone else named Weersing you can be certain that they are somehow related. You and I are definitely related. I do have you and your siblings listed in my family tree already so with a touch of a few keys, my computer program tells me that you and I are 3rd cousins AND also half 2nd cousins once removed.
I will now attempt to explain that...... My great-grandfather was Jacob Weersing (1834-1921). I am descended from him and his second wife Fennegien Lemmen (1849-1925). You are also descended from Jacob Weersing but through his first wife, Jakobie Boelens(1834-1970). Jacob was your gr. gr. grandfather. This connection makes you and I half 2nd cousins once removed. Among the children of Jacob and Jakobie was your gr. grandfather Jan Weersing (1862-1930) who married Ida Lemmen (1869-1923). If I am not mistaken, your gr. grandmother Ida Lemmen was sister to my great grandmother Fennegien Lemmen. So basically your Jan Weersing married his father's 2nd wife's sister. Are you following any of this?? This connection ALSO makes us 3rd cousins.
There is one other connection there that is interesting but is almost way too complicated to explain.....but I am going to try. Your grandfather was James G. Weersing (1891-1955). He had an older brother named Jacob Jay Weersing (1886-unknown). Jacob Jay Weersing married Rena Nies who was sister to my grandmother Geziena Florence Nies who married my grandfather Martin J. Weersing. From what I understand, Jacob Jay Weersing disappeared and was never heard from again. After my grandmother Geziena Florence Nies Weersing died, Martin Weersing married Rena Nies Weersing. So, my grandfather married his first wife's sister who was also his half-nephew's wife. NOW I AM SURE I HAVE LOST YOU. One more thing, since my grandfather Martin J. Weersing's mother was Fennegien Lemmen Weersing and Jacob Jay Weersing 's mother was Ida Lemmen Weersing, they were not only half nephew/half uncle but also 1st cousins. Whew! I don't know how I keep any of this straight in my mind.
I probably have you totally confused.
You say you don't know anything about your grandfather. I only have names and dates of many of these people. If I sent you my entire report, my computer tells me that it would be 48 pages long. I will start by sending you the earliest generations of Weersings down to your gr. gr. grandfather Jacob Weersing. Then I will send Jacob Weersing's descendants down to you.
Keep in mind that this is a work in progress and I am not claiming that it is 100% accurate. I would appreciate it if you could inform me of any corrections or help me fill in anything that I am missing. I also have pics of your gr. gr. grandfather.
PLEASE let me know if you already have any of this. I am looking forward to hearing from you,
