I, too, have a WEHRY family that I am trying to trace.Herman A. Heinrich WEHRE b. Abt. 1785 and wife Marie Elisabeth b. Abt. 1782 sailed from Bremen, Germany, to Baltimore, MD, in 1833.Their home town given on ship's list was Dinklage. With them were these children: Elisabeth b. Abt. 1814, John Henry b. Feb. 1818, Bernhardine b. Abt. 1821, and Clement b. Abt. 1825.
In 1850 (census) John Henry WEERY and wife Caroline (dau of Valentine KENSLER?), b. May 1830 in Bavaria, were living in Pusheta Twp., Auglaize Co., OH.John Henry was a merchant.About 1867, the family moved to Fort Wayne, Allen Co., IN, where John died in 1904 and Caroline died in 1914.They are buried in Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne. The name is spelled WHERY on the gravestone.Their children are Louis b. Abt. 1849 (might have been living in Chicago in 1880), Henry b. Abt. 1852 (m. Christina HAYS), Amelia b. 14 Aug 1853 (m. Charles LEICHNER), Minnie b. Abt. 1855, Mary b. Abt. 1860 (m. Sylvester REIFSNIDER), Charles b. Abt. 1864 (m. Minnie TILKER), Matilda b. 1867 (m. George W. CLARK), and Veranaca b. Abt. 1868.All children were born in Ohio except Veranaca was born in IN.(Surname spelled WERY on many records).
A sister-in-law, Sabina BOHRER (b. Oct 1825 in Germany), was living with John and Caroline Whery in Fort Wayne, IN, in 1900.
In 1850 (census) Clement WEHRY and his wife Mary (FRUIKAMP) b. Abt. 1825 in Germany, were living in Putnam Co., Ohio with daughters Elisabeth age 4 and Diana age 2, both born in OH.Clement was a farmer. The name is spelled WAERA on the census record.Clement may have married a second time to Christina BODENMILLER.
If anyone has anything to share about any member of this family, please feel free to sende-mail.Help much appreciated. Thanks, Phyllis
