Hi, thanks for the message! My Charles William "Otto Fredrick" Weichmann was born in Chicago in 1900, and had two siblings, the eldest of which was born in 1897 in Chicago. My Weichmann line begins in the U.S. with Ferdinand August WEICHMANN (b. 1827 in Neumark, Germany)and his wife, Wilhelmina KREUTZER (b.1830 in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany). They immigrated to Chicago, and had nine children. Of the sons, the only ones that may have fathered a child in 1885 are Charles (my g-g-grandfather, b.1862 so he would have been 23 in 1885), Ferdinand Fredrick (b.1865 so he would have been just 20 in 1885), and August Weichmann (b. 1867 so he would only have been just 18 in 1885). I have no documentation that supports the idea of any of these three fathering a son in New York state, so it seems really unlikely that we are related on the U.S. side, although there could be a connection in our lines further back in Germany. However, I also have no proof that we are NOT related! It's possible, I just don't have any information to support it. For example, I do not have marriage details, or detailed immigration details for Ferdinand August WEICHMANN. Maybe he came over to the States with some relatives, and some of them stayed in New York, while he went on to Chicago. Also, my g-g-grandfather Charles is not listed with his family in Chicago on the 1880 U.S. census. Where was he? We don't know. With relatives? Away at school? In New York? I do know that his wife, my g-g-grandmother Charlotte REIBERT was born in New York. Did they meet in New York? Was she his second wife? Was your Michael WEICHMANN a son from a first marriage? Stranger things have happened... Good luck in your search and feel free to contact me for more info on my line.
