I am Tracy's cousin Tom Weichmann.I am wondering whether or not you have ever found a connection.
We have a greatgreatgrandfather Johann Weichmann who was married to Elizabeth Meier. They came to Buffalo between 1881 and 1885.
This puts them in Buffalo ~20 years after your Sophie.Interesting though, they had a daughter names Sophie, I am not sure, but I do not think that this is a very common name for a german.
You said : I was able to finally find out for sure that Sophia was indeed a Weichmann (also spelled Wigman in a few German records- makes sense, I guess, since I believe a German 'g' is pronounced 'k', right?).
How were you able to find this information?
Also, I am very suprised that you have found the germans spelling the name wigman.'Weich' is a german word meaning smooth or soft, where there is no german word 'wig'.Also a German 'g' does not sound like a 'k'.
