The maiden name of my great-grandmother, Dora Wellons, was Hawkins. She was married twice, first to a Hicks (with two or three children:Emma Waldine Hicks, Joseph Simpson Hicks, and Alton Hicks (maybe, I think). Then, she married James Monroe Wellons and had four daughters and one son, James, who died very young, I think, of diptheria. The daughters were:May Rose, Lena, Lyda Mae, and my grandmother Dora the youngest, who died in 1997.My grandmother married Emmett Earl Baker from Clarence Missouri and had two children, Marietta Martin who lives in Memphis and my father Dr. J. Earl Baker who passed away. I am the elder son of Dr. Baker. My brother, Jeffrey Evans Baker, still resides in Memphis.
My great grandmother did own the hotel/boarding house in Grand Junction. She moved to Memphis I think in the 1920s at the instigation of my great uncle Joe who was for many, many years the City Tax Assessor under Mayor Crump.
I still have quite a few immediate cousins in Memphis.
One interesting tidbit. My great aunt May lived in Grand Junction, TN up until the 1950s, and managed the National Field Trials at the Ames Plantation which was famous.
