Page 334. Will. I, George Wells of L, sick and weak -
All my just debts are to be punctually paid.
To my sons, Elijah Wells and Abner Wells - 200 acres where I
live, to be equally divided between them, that is to
say, the plantation or that part of the land where
Elijah now lives, to Elijah, and that part of the land
where I live and plantation, to my son Abner.
To my son Abner - my Negro man slave named Harry, and my
Negro child Judy.
To my daughter Susanna - my Negro woman Doll, and her choice
of my cows.
To my wife - the rest of my estate, during her natural life,
and at her death, to be equally divided between my 4
[sic] children, Elija, Hannah, Ann, Susanna, and Abner.
Executors - Elija Wells and Federick Nance.

Hayley (+ his mark).
At Oct 6, 1761 Court, the will of the deceased was
exhibited by Elija Wells, one of the executors, and the same
was proved by the oaths of 3 of the witnesses, and ordered
to be recorded. And on the motion of said executor,
certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of said
will, whereupon he, together with James Foster and George
Foster, his securities, entered into their bond, reserving
liberty to Frederick Nance, the other executor, to join in
probate thereof when he shall think fit.

that I have for the above said Mrs. Wells, I, William Brown do give unto
the said Sarah Wells the plantation I now live." "During her natural
life, also a Negro wench named, Anck, aged 99, which plantation and
Negro I do give to the said Sarah Wells, the widow of Mr. George Wells,

We the undernamed Officers of the 2nd Battalion of South Carolina Royalists Do Hereby Certify that on our arriving at Hudson’s Ferry from Carolina with the Men of whom Said Battalion were afterward Composed Col: CAMPBELL did distribute the Said men into Six Companies under different Captains. And on observing that Mr. George CARTER, Mr. Isaac GRAY and Mr. James HARVEY, had resigned the men whom they brought from Carolina to fill up the Six Companies then formed. He the Said Colonel CAMPBELL did assure the foresaid CARTER, GRAY and HARVEY that they should receive Captain’s Half Pay untill they should have the opportunity of raising their Companies in Carolina. And we do further Certify that Mr. James HARVEY had sett off with Leave to raise men in Carolina and was absent on that attempt when Half Pay was confirmed to CARTER & GRAY by His Excelly. H, 48th Alabama Infantry, in Jan. 1863 in VA hospital with diarrhea. His bro John(James?) S. Wells started for VA to get him since George was granted a “dead furlough.” John(James?) S. went to the railroad at Augusta and picked him up and brought him home to Cherokee Co., Alabama on 1/16/1863. He died on 3/6/1863 or 3/7/1863 at his home in Cherokee Co., AL. Mary A. was born 4/21/1829 in Gilmore Co. GA, married on 10/18/1852, moved to AL then back to GA in 8/1867. Witness: J.F. Wells
