Hi- I'm not a genetic Wendes- my grandmother lived with Tom Wendes in East Meon (farmhouse burnt down between the wars) and my father (Bert, aka Bob) took the surname. I did some research some while ago, and concluded that a Wendes must have landed on the IOW some time in the 1700's as there are none in earlier Hearth Tax returns. Searching Europe, there were a lot of Wendeses in Kaliningrad, or Koenigsburg and so perhaps as this is a port this might be a clue- Wendes is not an English surname, as there are no early wills etc.
I live just north of Portsmouth, and am freelance offering training in Go, an ancient oriental strategy game. 02392 267648. Please reply by email, as I'm not a regular user of this site:firstname.lastname@example.org
