Since I descend from "one" of these early Wentzel families, perhaps I can help a little.
Johannes Lorentz Wentzel (b 1701-d 1780)) m Anna Katarina Nagel (b 1708-d 1793) six children; Baltazar (Baltzer) (b 1735), Jonannes P. Wentzel (b 1739), Jonnes W. Wentzel (b unk), Samuel Wentzel (b unk), Anna Elizabeta Wentzel (b unk), Daniel Wentzel (b 1746 d 1811) m. Margreda Elizabeta ? (b 1746-d 1786).
The last, Daniel, was my gggggg great grandfather. Lorentz and his family arrived in Pennsylvania at Philadelphia in 1748. Lorentz was 47 years of age at the time. This means that all were born in Germany as far as I can tell (except for those whose birth dates are unknown. The family settled in Alsace Township, Berks, PA. Daniel's son Daniel (b 1774-d 1849)(the younger) was a ggggg great grandfather of mine.
Maybe this can help clear up some of the mystery caused by so many of these names being the same!
