My wife is a member of the Wessels family which hails from Iroquois County, Illinois, Nebraska and Arkansas. We have genealogical data for the Wessels family that was researched in Germany going back to about the mid-1700's.This Wessels family is of Ostfriesian origin.Ostfriesland or East Friesia is an ancient Germanic tribe located along to North Sea.The Friesians are now part of Germany (in the east) and Holland (in the west). The Wessels family members of our ancestry were agricultural workers, farmers and such. They lived along the low lands of the North sea and had to deal with flooding and water issues from time immemorial. They brought their skills with them to places like Iroquois county where they helped drain the flat marshy lands making them productive.
We just had a family reunion this past summer in Iroquois County with people from these three branches in attendance.People from all over the country in attendance,My wife and I have pretty good records of the Wessels family for those that may be interested.E-mail us for more information.
Hope this helps.
