Thanks so much for the info on Wesseling/Wessling/Wesling Karl! My own family came to America in 1950 from Holland, Friesland area. The name Wesseling dates back in Holland to the 18th century. The earliest Wesselings apparently emigrated from Germany. My own family began in the Netherlands with a woman named Hendrica Wesseling, mother of my great-great grandfather Pieter Wesseling. We assume that Hendrica's family came from Germany. I have found Pieter's birth record from 1813 in Drenthe, the Netherlands. I cannot find out anything about Hendrica. Family oral tradition says she was an unwed teenager who became entangled with her married employer. She apparently was a maid or something. When she became pregnent he gave her and her family money to move away. I don't know how true any of this is but it's a great story and I'd love to know where Hendrica was from and who her family is. so far I've hit a lot of dead ends.
