I found much of the information on my direct-line ancestor Eliza Whaling (pronounced 'Whalen') in the King Papers at the Virginia Historical Society in the file for her husband's family, Douglas(s).Until the correposndence in this thread, I had no idea where Posey Whaling's family was from. The family of Triplet and Eliza (Whaling) Douglass was hard hit by the Civil War and their daughter migrated to the Boston area in 1864 with her husband and other children.
