I'm sorry, my fingers didn't do the walking very well,
The probably heirs who received payments in the estate of Michael Whelan (however you want to spell it) were: John Whalen $73 James Whalen, $65 Charles Whalen, $53.75 Eleanor Whalen, $90 Edward W. Whalen, $90 Michael Whalen, $90 Henry K. Whalen $90
The listing of the accounts was dated 8 day Sept 1822.
Notably missing was Phillip Whalen, who is known to be the oldest, but disabled. Some people have said that he suffered epilepsy, I'd be interested to know how this is known, someone have some old family letters out there? He is listed as "insane" and aged 57 on the Meade County, KY 1850 census.
The Order Book C., p. 363, Monday July 12, 1824 has this interesting and sad record.Josiah McIntire, John Batsil and William Spink were ordered to appraise the estate of Charles Whalen, and on July 24, a list of his sales was recorded in Will Book D., p. 101.Jon. B. Whelan, (yes, that is way it is spelled this time), James Whelan, Gracey Whelan were family members who purchased items. On p. 209, dated 27 Nov. 1826 settlement of estste of Charles Whalen by John and James Whalen included two cash payments, one to Phillip Whalen and another to Grace E. Whelan.
One of the heirs of Michael and Grace E. Whelan who moved to Meade County and settled in the Flaherty area was Michael, who was one of the infant heirs. Many Whelans/ Whalens in the Flaherty area are descended from the young Michael who married Anne Ellen Brown at St. Rose's Church, Washington County, KY and as far as is known had four sons and a daughter.I found four of these children in St. Rose's records. Charles Kendrick, bapt. 28 Mar 1838 Mary Eleanor Whelann bapt. July 2, 1840 John Alexander bapt. 15 Sept 1842 Thomas Whelan bapt. 26 Sept 1845 I could not find Daniel O'Connel Whelan in those records but he is listed in the 1853 St. Martin's census with his parents aged 6, which would put his birth between 1846 and 1847.
