The original of this posting was sent to Karen as an e-mail.I am posting it here in case some other Jones/Whisnant is tracking this posting. Please reply to me or Karen and we can follow up on relatives as needed.
Hello. It is very good to at last connect with a member of the Jones/Whisnant family.
My grandmother was Hattie (Whisnant) Jones, sister of Franklin and Isabel, so, I guess you and I are second cousins.
I don't know how much information you already have about the family.I have some.Part from family history and memories and part from the census records and cemetery records.I will answer your questions as I have the information, then, perhaps we can exchange family trees, either on-line or off.I have a lot of information about descendants of Hattie and Franklin, but not much on the other sisters and brothers.I would really appreciate learning more about our common ancestors.
James Robert and Robert James appear to be the same person.I found him on the 1900 and 1910 census records and the birthdates/ages match.1910 did show Isabel as "Bill R", a daughter and Aunt Roxie as "Rosie" but their ages indicate they are the correct persons. My cousin Faye (see below) reported his name as "William Frank", but that is contradicted by Aunt Roxie's information and all the census records.Do not know who William Frank is, if anybody.
The 1920 census showed Scot W. Johnes. The name is wrong, but this is my grand-father, Winfield Scott Jones, married to Hattie Melinda Whisnant on February 18, 1912 at Ada, OK.The family called him Scott. My "Grannie" is the sister of Ola and Roxie (shown again as "Rosie") and she raised them after their mother died in 1909.(Betty Elizabeth (Crump) Whisnant, b. 4-26-1866, d. 10-28-1909 and buried in the Oakman Cemetery, as confirmed by the cemetery listing). The 1920 census does not list my grandmother's name, but she was definitely living with Scott Jones. It also does not list any of their children, although my mother was five years old at the time (Geneva Lois Jones).
Franklin b.4--30-1884 in Waldren Arkansas (Scott County) married Georgie A. (Luther) on December 31, 1902 at Oakman.I found the record of their marriage license. It shows his name as J. F. Whisenaut, age 18.(Chickasaw Nation Marriages on file at Ardmore Courthouse. "Groom Index"Roll G, Nov-1902 to Dec-1903, roll #472-473)
The marriage license showed him as J. F.I found them on the 1920 Census (Hughes County, 30/59/3/80) as "John F": NameRel.AgeBorn John FHead35AR GeorgieWife35AR Royson16OK Bessiedau14OK Willieson9OK Frankson7OK
I always heard him called simply as "Frank".Frank and Georgie moved to Tulare, California where they had a large farm. They had other children also.It is hard to sort out some of the names, because of all the nicknames, but I think I have them.
Frank died 9-14-54.I think he may have been buried in California.
Georgie died 11-15-1981, in Santa Maria, California. She is buried in Tulare Cemetery.Perhaps Frank is as well.
Aunt Roxie's daughter, Faye Lundhagenis still living in Carlsbad, California. She may know where Frank is buried. Her address is (deleted). She just might welcome a letter from a distant relative.
Faye was born 11-21-1922 at Ada, OK as Lillie Faye (Mays), daughter of Roxie Ann (Whisnant) and her first husband, Thomas Franklin Mays .
Emmit Whisnant may not be listed on any census records as he died when he was only 1 1/2 years old, per information from Aunt Roxie as told to my cousin, Janice (Howard) Watson, granddaughter of Scott and Hattie Jones. He was born after Hattie (1895, TX) and before Roxie (1904, OK), but I don't know the date or if in Texas or Oklahoma.
Robert & Elizabeth's Parents:
Robert:I don't have either the father or mother's names. He was born in April 12, 1859 per Roxie and March 12, 1860 per the cemetery records. He died 10-13-1918 at Sasakwa, OK and was buried 10-15 at Oakman Cemetery. The census data also shown his birth date as 4-60.
Elizabeth:Was born Betty Elizabeth (Crump) on Apr 26, 1866 in Arkansas.Died Oct 28, Oakman, OK.Buried in Oakman Cemetery.Do not have father's or mother's first names, etc.
Robert and Elizabeth are listed together in the cemetery records as "Father" and "Mother".
Your e-mail mentioned that you have the name of a lady that may be able to provide more information on my grandfather Jones.I would appreciate the name and a contact source.
Please write back, either e-mail or snail mail. My mailing address is: (deleted) I would love to exchange some more information about the Whisnant, etc. family.
