I have a copy of the 1865 census from Steuben Co.Apparently I did not note the page number but I know it was almost at the end of the town of West Union.I almost gave up several times. There were 3 films for Steuben Co. and I didn't know which town they lived in.My great grandmothers bible just said she was born in "Stuben Co."The writing was so light that many pages appeared to be blank and even my copies didn't turn out the greatest. If you're interested in a copy I will send it to you and also the bible page that I referred to earlier.1865 is the only year that I made a copy of the census page.I also corresponded with the Steuben Co. Historical Society and they listed the following census:
1855-p23.West Union- I.Whitbeck age 24 here 2 yrs.M. Whitbeck-19 b. Greene she's here 9 yrs. M.L. Whitbeck-2 b-Allegany Co. L. Whitbeck(male) 5/12.1860-Iseah Whitbeck 31 b-NY Susanna H. 19, Lot-5-page 22 West Union.The following is from the 1865-
Isaiah Whitbeck-37,b-GreeneCo.m-3 times;Susannah-23 b-Cayuga Co. 2 ch.1st marr.
Lovina-12 b-Allegany Co.
Lot-10, b. Steuben Co.
Emma- 3 11/12-b Steuben Co.
Ida-7/12 b-Steuben -(this is my gggm)
They also sent me a copy of two deeds #113-189 and 108-556 drawn up in 1866between Isaiah and the estate of ? Philip Kearney. I think somewhere amongst my papers I remember seeing that Isaiah had been in VA but since I didn't have any idea where I never pursued it.Hope this helps.Keep in touch.
